The Situationists International

The movement of the Situationists international where founded in 1957 in Paris. They where dissolved in 1972.
Their main focus was the critique about modern consumerism and capitalism. They criticiced the unfulfilling and monotonous work from 9a mto 5 pm, that only contribute to the wealth of your boss and as a return you only can buy meaningless sonsumer goods.
The Situationists International sad that consumerism led us to believe, that satisfaction and fulfilment we crave is not reached through getting rid of capitalism,
but instead by buying stuff, that promises to bring us joy. Basicaly that we try to distract us with cheap goods,
that can`t really outweight the meaningless, boring and hard work, of every day.
The name came from the idea, that they wanted to create situations (like the Dérive), that break up the consumerist routine without haveing to spend money.

Some of the Situatuionists for example where Guy Debord, François de Beaulieu and Asger Jorn.
They wrote a lot, created pictures, combined diffrent pictures (collage), used photography and even made movies.
